I am a former Bowker lab member interested in most topics pertaining to dryland ecosystems. My current research focus is understanding how to effectively use biological soil crust to stabilize eroding soil.  I believe biological soil crusts are an under appreciated and endlessly fascinating aspect of desert systems.  The more we know about these crusts, the more we can utilize them to help restore degraded landscapes.

I have worked as a technician examining biological soil crust in the Sonoran Desert and at the Canyonlands Research Station in Moab, UT.
